West Ham have been dealt a massive blow as Manchester United have reportedly inquired about January target Serhou Guirassy.
Over the past few years, West Ham have struggled to find anyone who can fill the boots of the aging Michail Antonio. The likes of Haller, Scamacca and Ings haven’t come close to replacing him. With Antonio being 33 years old, the club are now desperate to find someone to finally end their striker woes.
As our own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed, one player of interest is Stuttgart’s Guirassy who has scored 16 league goals already this season. This incredible form has been key in taking the German side from relegation playoffs last term, all the way to third place this season.
Unfortunately, with a rumoured release clause of just £17.5 million, the Hammers were always going to face competition in securing his signature. It just so happens that the competition comes from one of the biggest clubs in the world: Manchester United.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany put out a post on X today, revealing the Red Devil’s interest. “Serhou #Guirassy: ManUtd has inquired about him! They are aware of the financial details now,” he reported. “The 27 y/o is among their top candidates for winter as he can leave #VfB for less than €20m in January.”
“#Guirassy, open for concrete talks with #MUFC next month but his original plan remains the same: to stay in Stuttgart until summer.”
This does not seem like good news to West Ham, but there are plenty of reasons fans should not panic just yet. The first of which being that he is just one of many potential strikers that the club could look to bring in. Moyes may decide he isn’t the man for the job and pursue other options, or that they would rather a different type of player.
Secondly, a common tactic of agents is ‘leaking’ that clubs are wanting to sign their players to try and generate interest from other clubs. While this may not necessarily be the case here, it certainly is a possibility especially given the attention that the Manchester United name brings and the fact they already have a number of options up front.
Finally, even if they do want to sign Guirassy, we have seen multiple times how Tim Steidten can convince a player to move to East London. The fact we managed to sign someone like Mohammed Kudus should give fans confidence that we are able to compete with the ‘bigger’ clubs when it comes to signing players.
Overall, this news should not cause hysteria amongst the fanbase. A signing against all odds seems to be becoming something that we quite enjoy and, worst comes to worst, we have plenty of other targets, some of which may even be ahead of Stuttgart’s main man.
