West Ham must respond in tonight’s Group A decider following the heavy defeat to Fulham at the weekend.

Our Hammers host Freiburg at the London Stadium in what is a showdown to grab top spot in the group, and therefore book a place in the last-16 knockout stage of the Europa League.

David Moyes’ side will be looking to respond from a very poor showing in our 5-0 loss to Fulham on Sunday – although a recent virus could again disrupt the squad in terms of availability.

West Ham only need a point to top the group tonight, so it is hoped a defeat to the German side can be avoided, although their form suggests our Hammers are in for a tough encounter.

The West Ham Way Podcast co-host and club insider ExWHUEmployee has given his thoughts on the game, stating that a positive result is paramount to avoid a fixture pile up next year.

“It’s a big game today,” stated Ex. “We must not lose to secure our place as top of the group, and therefore bypassing a playoff against the Champions League drop out teams!

“This is crucial for our fixture congestion and obviously our chances of winning the trophy. After the Fulham game too, it is important to not be beat and bounce back quickly.”
