West Ham produced a very accomplished display to see off Freiburg last night and qualify for the Europa League last-16 round.
It was certainly the response many were hoping to witness following the heavy defeat to Fulham at the weekend, with our Hammers putting on a confident and all-round positive performance to see David Moyes’ side finish top of Group A – meaning we have now qualified from the European group stage for the 3rd consecutive season.
Goals from former Ajax duo Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez were enough to see off the German side, and arguably more importantly – West Ham keeping a clean sheet which will give everybody a big confidence boost ahead of of our Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Sunday.
The West Ham Way Podcast host Dave Walker was understandably delighted with the result, and more so the performance from Moyes’ side – who he agreed showed control for the vast majority of the proceedings, which gives all connected with the club more to be excited about for 2024.
“Job done and job done well,” exclaimed a very happy Walker. “It was so refreshing to see us dominate a game with some real individual quality.
“We needed that after the Fulham result and it’s great to be through to the round of 16, well done lads!”
West Ham next face former Hammer Gary O’Neil’s Wolves at the London Stadium this weekend, wanting to get back on track as we look to continue our push to be in the European spots again for next season.
