Barcelona have surprisingly been linked with a West Ham outcast ahead of the January transfer window.

If there is one thing that West Ham’s embarrassing defeat to Liverpool made clear it’s that their squad players are not up to scratch. The Reds annihilated a heavily rotated Hammers side full of fringe players. The fact that any club would want to sign any of them after that performance will come as a shock, let alone a club like Barcelona.

Despite being out of favour for a while, Pablo Fornals is loved in the East End of London. His last minute goal against AZ Alkmaar will never be forgotten; it is engraved into West Ham history and there is no one that fans would rather have scored it.

However, even his biggest admirers will confess though that he has not been good enough for quite a while, but clearly Barcelona believe he can do a job in their midfield, according to journalist Bruno Alemany that is.

The Catalonian giants have lost their star-boy Gavi to a horrific injury and Xavi apparently sees Fornals as a potential replacement. This news will not upset the Irons too much though, as they are desperate to raise funds through fringe player sales this January. In fact the board activated a years extension in his contract purely to get a higher transfer fee.

Unsurprisingly, the Spaniard is disappointed with his playing time this season and a return to his home country is something he must long for. Even then, it is hard for any player to turn down the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I think every single one of the West Ham faithful would be delighted for Pablo if he was to get such a massive move. Everything about him just oozes class and, even if he is not performing at the levels we would like, he gives his all every time he puts on that shirt.

Fornals instantly understood what it meant to play for this club and he has given us some unforgettable moments. A transfer to Barcelona would be a beautiful end to our love affair with our Spanish magician.
