Highly rated Bayer Leverkusen defender is on West Ham’s shortlist, but they will face competition from European Elites, according to reports.

There is no denying that West Ham’s defence has been leaky at times this season. We know how well the players at the back can perform, but there have been times where they have just not been at the level that is expected.

In particular, Mavropanos and Aguerd have both made multiple mistakes leading directly to goals already this season. Despite the latter’s recent return to form, the Hammers could be looking to bring in a young talent to provide some much needed competition for our Moroccan, according to CaughtOffside.

Reportedly, Moyes could make a move for Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie in the January window. The Ecuadorian is someone that has been on his radar for a while now, with there previously being rumours that the East London club were going to make a move for him in the Summer.

Obviously, this never ended up happening but, thanks to his situation in Germany, they could be in a much better position to acquire his services in January.

Florian Plettenberg reports that the 21 year old is keen to make a move away from the unbeaten- German side. He is apparently fed up of being sat on the bench, which should come as no surprise given his potential. Leverkusen are eager to keep a hold of him though, as their two first choice centre-back’s going to the African Cup of Nations, therefore West Ham may be forced to pay a higher price due to their desire to keep hold of him.

Unfortunately, a higher fee won’t be their only issue as Liverpool are also showing strong interest in the youngster.

Given the amount he would cost, it seems unlikely we will be seeing Hincapie in Claret and Blue this January. The board are being very careful of FFP, and we know their priorities lie outside of a central defender.

If the opportunity arises, he may be someone they look at bringing in when the Summer transfer window opens, assuming someone else doesn’t get their hands on him first.
