West Ham are reportedly one of the clubs interested in one of the EFL’s top talents.

In recent years, David Moyes has made a habit of signing players from the Championship, with Jarrod Bowen being the most notable. This success in dipping into the 2nd division has led West Ham to scour the lower leagues for young talents who they believe can make the step up to the Premier League.

Ronnie Edwards is someone that the Hammers have previously shown interest in and put in an “unacceptable” bid last Summer, according to their director of football.

Now, The Sun reports that the East London outfit could once again make a move for the defender. He has already become a vital player for Peterborough, playing in every single one of their League One fixtures this season, as well as an unbelievable 113 games for the Posh in total. At just 20 years old, he has an incredibly high potential and there is no limit in what he can achieve.

Acquiring his services is expected to cost at least £4.5 million, though it could be much higher, and West Ham will not go without challenge in doing so. A whole heap of teams are expected to make their move for the youngster, including Everton and Rangers.

Understandably, Peterborough are desperate to keep hold of their star and this will only be amplified by the fact that they are in with a great chance of getting promoted this campaign.

It is no secret that our Irons have other priorities in the January window. A striker and a full-back are at the top of their list and signing a League One player for that amount of money is risky.

In the grand scheme of things, it is a small amount of money to a club like West Ham and this could suit their limited budget, but they may prefer to spend it in areas they really need to add to. If he is still at Peterborough in the Summer, that would be more ideal for West Ham to take that risk – when they do not have the burden of FFP regulations hanging over their head.
