West Ham are keen to sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, but it is unlikely that they will do so in the January transfer window.

As our own ExWHUEmployee confirmed yesterday, West Ham are big fans of Danish international Matt O’Riley. The midfielder was excellent for Celtic last season, but he has gone up a level this term where he has scored 9 goals and assisted 8. His impressive form has garnered the attention of not just the Hammers, but multiple big clubs in the Premier League, Football Insider report.

Surprisingly, he cost the Hoops just £1.5 million and they will be expecting to make a massive profit from their star player. Anything less than their record selling fee of £25 million is expected to be rejected but how much more they will demand remains to be seen.

Understandably, the reigning Scottish champions are desperate to keep hold of the 23 year old as they look to win the SPFL yet again. In fact, Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to accept any offer for him until the Summer, which works perfectly for the Hammers.

It is no secret that West Ham have areas they need to add to, namely a striker and a full-back, but an attacking midfield is probably the position they need to improve the least. Given their limited budget in January, Ex revealed that the Irons will most likely wait until the end of the season to make an offer for O’Riley, assuming he is still at Celtic.

Given the amount of players that are expected to depart over the next two windows, O’Riley is exactly the type of player our Irons will need – young and exciting with plenty of room to develop into a top quality midfielder. If he is able to take that step up to the Premier League, then he would be a great addition to the squad.
