David Moyes has reportedly decided which striker he wants to go ahead with signing this January but West Ham are expected to face competition for his signature.

With Kudus departing for AFCON in the coming days, it has really highlighted West Ham’s lack of depth. While our starting XI is excellent and we can move Bowen back to the right, it leaves a gap up top that no one can really fill.

Michail Antonio has been out for a number of weeks through injury and will lack match fitness when he does return. Danny Ings could be on the move in January and Divin Mubama is still too raw for David Moyes liking. This conundrum has forced the Hammers to prioritise signing a forward in the January window and Football Insider have reported that they’ve made up their mind on who they want to sign.

Someone that has been linked with a move to East London for a while now is Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart. The 27 year old has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season, scoring 17 goals in just 14 games. His release clause is rumoured to be only £17.5 million and this had made him one of West Ham’s top choices given the club’s limited budget.

Unfortunately, someone with such a cheap price tag, with that level of output, was never going to go under the radar and the Hammers are set to face competition from Manchester United. Despite their drop off from the top, the Red Devils are still one of the biggest teams in the world and, therefore, Guirassy is said to favour a move to the North of England.

Unlike previous years. Man United can realistically guarantee a good amount of playing time to the Guinea international, making it even more difficult for our Irons to negotiate a deal, but it is important to remember that we have made a habit of pulling off signings against all odds. There is no doubt that Guirassy is a top quality player who we would benefit from having, it will just be a tricky one to pull off.
