Maxwell Cornet has been urged to move on from West Ham this January.

Sometimes, despite expectations, transfers that should work out on paper just do not in reality. It is something we see all the time, but it always stings a little when a good player fails to find form for your club.

Unfortunately for West Ham fans, this has been the case with Maxwell Cornet. The African winger was a brilliant signing for Burnley and was one of the only positives they had for the short time he was there. Since joining the Hammers, he has failed to make an impact, suffering a major injury and has  not really been given the chance to prove himself since.

Given the massively weakened side David Moyes was forced to put out against Brighton, you would have expected Cornet to have some sort of minutes on the pitch. The fact he was not given even a brief cameo clearly shows that there is no plan for him to be used by the manager.

The Hammers want to offload fringe players and Cornet wants a fresh start, so it is understandable why Dean Jones believes he, alongside ellow bench-warmer Thilo Kehrer, will be leaving the club.

“They are definitely two of the players that West Ham are looking to listen to offers for in the January market, and it wouldn’t really influence their current set-up,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“I’m not sure what’s going on there with Cornet. He has been wasting his time at West Ham, and it’s probably extremely frustrating for him. West Ham would not stand in his way at all if an offer was to come in.”

“Kehrer has a little bit of interest from abroad already, so I think West Ham will be very open to listening to any potential clubs that will take him away,” he concluded.

There is no doubt that Cornet has the ability to be a nailed-on starter for a lot of clubs around Europe, West Ham just is not one of them.

His bright start to life in Claret and Blue was dimmed by his injury, and the Brighton game all but confirmed that the Ivorian will not get another chance to prove himself to David Moyes.
