Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly considering signing an out-of-favour West Ham duo this January.
It is no secret that West Ham are strapped for cash right now. The Premier League as well as UEFA are finally cracking down on those who break financial fair play regulations, and the Hammers are close to being in trouble. While they have not broken any rules yet, they will need to sell fringe players if they want to bring in any new faces this January.
Fortunately, Wolves may have just answered their prayers as they contemplate signing two of West Ham’s outcasts this month, according to Foot Mercato, the first of which being Danny Ings.
Following his move from Aston Villa, Ings has had a nightmare in East London. In a year he has only managed to score 3 goals and has rarely started a game. When he has, he has failed to impress, being little more than a passenger. Considering that he is one of the highest paid players at the club, earning around 175k a week, it is no wonder that the board would be delighted to see him move on.
The second player Gary O’Neil is apparently interested in is winger Said Benrahma. The Algerian joined as an exciting prospect who had taken the Championship by storm, while he showed glimpses of brilliance he never managed to achieve what was expected of him. Now, it is not often he even gets minutes, let alone starts for West Ham. If they can get the £20 million that they are hoping for, it is hard to imagine anyone being too upset with his departure.
For both of the attackers, it is a shame that they could not produce what everyone had hoped for – they just were not good enough.
What makes this even more interesting though is the Hammers interest in Max Kilman. With Kehrer on his way out and the club being open to offers for Aguerd, could the two sides agree on some sort of swap deal?
Either way, it is best for both West Ham and the duo if they do move on – sometimes in football things just are not meant to be.
