Reports have revealed that West Ham are willing to listen to offers for Conor Coventry amidst interest from Sheffield Wednesday.

Sometimes a youth player just does not get an opportunity to prove himself in the first team. Loan moves obviously provide vital experience for a youngster. but even performing at another club is not always enough. A perfect example of this is Conor Coventry.

When the midfielder started being in and around the first team, expectations were high for him. He had so much potential and his brilliant performances when on loan led fans to believe he could be the next star to come out the Academt of Football. So, considering it has consistently been said that he impresses in training, it is bewildering that he never got a real chance.

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that he will get his time to shine at West Ham now and, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Hammers are keen to move on this month rather than lose him for nothing.

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are keen on acquiring the Irishman’s services this month. The Owls currently sit third from bottom in the Championship, but have won their last three games in all competitions. At one point they looked certain to go straight back down to League One, that is not the case anymore.

A player like Coventry could be exactly what they need, especially if he clicks straight away. It is not known whether they would want to sign him on loan or permanently this month, even though they have been given permission to speak to him.

Much to their dismay, Wednesday are not the only club interested in him and The Real EFL believe Charlton Athletic are actually ahead in the race for his signature.

He may not have had much of a chance to play in claret and blue but, at just 23 years old, he still has plenty of time to develop into an excellent player. Hopefully consistent first team football will put him on the right path. The East London faithful will wish nothing but the best for Coventry when he does move on to the next chapter in his career.
