West Ham target Steven Bergwijn is reportedly excited at the prospect of playing for the East London side.

With their ongoing injury crisis, alongside losing players to AFCON, it is clear to see that West Ham desperately need to make some signings. Antonio, Paqueta, Bowen and Kudus could all potentially be unavailable for their next match which leaves them with not a lot of choice when it comes to attackers.

Fortunately, the club are seemingly eager to sign a forward this January, with a number of names being linked with a move to East London. As our own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed back in November, one such player that West Ham could look to sign is Ajax’s Steven Bergwijn.

The former Tottenham player has 9 goal involvements in just 13 Eredivisie games this season and is a versatile option who can play in virtually any attacking position.

Now, Football Insider have reported that the Dutchman is “very keen” on making a move back to England as well as being “open to joining” the Hammers.

As we all know at this point, David Moyes has an extremely limited budget to work with this month and, therefore, he is eager to explore the possibility of a loan move for the winger. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that Ajax would sanction that given he is one of their most important players.

Given that he cost the Amsterdam-based club £25.8 million, as well as having three-and-a-half-years remaining on his contract, they could demand a considerable amount more for the 26 year old.

As Ex stated though, at this current moment there is no priority on who our Irons want to bring in this Winter. Bergwijn would be a brilliant signing, but the board really have to be mindful of their spending to make sure they don’t breach FFP. If they can raise the funds though, there is no reason not to go for him. It is just about whether he is the best value for their small amount of spending money or not.
