Lucas Paqueta has given an update on his recent injury which will delight West Ham fans.
Fans were understandably distraught when they heard that Paqueta was out injured a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately, the Brazilian quickly took to Instagram to confirm he would only be unavailable for West Ham’s clash with Brighton. However, he barely lasted ten minutes against Bristol City before once again going down with pain in his calf.
Over the past couple of days, we have seen various reports claiming that the playmaker could be out for various lengths of times. Our own ExWHUEmployee revealed on The West Ham Way patreon that “the fear is that Paqueta could be out for between 1-2 months” but there is “no official word” on what the reality is.
What is important to emphasise is that a “fear” does not mean that this is definitely the case and he could return sooner. Paqueta himself seems to be growing tired of the various outlets that are trying to claim they know exactly how long he is unavailable for when, as Ex said, no one knows for certain.
The midfielder sarcastically replied to a post on X that claimed he will be sidelined for 2 months by saying “That’s it folks lol.”
“Every hour [the length of time] increases by a month, calm down.”
Clearly, he does not believe that it will be that long, but, given what happened last time when he gave himself a deadline, maybe it is best that he does not put a timescale on his return. While it would be infuriating if he is out for a couple of months, if that is what it takes for him to fully recover then it is extremely important he does not rush himself back again.
Without him, our Irons will be missing a brilliant footballer and a great entertainer, but his health must come first. Let’s hope he does not make the same mistake twice.
