The BBC are clearly hopeful that Bristol City can cause an upset in their replay of the FA Cup third round against West Ham.

When it comes to the live coverage of cup games, there are a few reasons that a game will be selected. Firstly is when it is a game involving one of the big 6, secondly is when there is a derby or game of interest, and finally is when broadcasters believe there could be a ‘cupset’. Evidently, it was the latter that has caused the BBC to show West Ham’s FA Cup replay against Bristol City live.

After Jarrod Bowen’s early opener, it was looking like it could be an easy day at the office for the Hammers against City – it would be far from it.

Injuries to Bowen, Paqueta and Mavropanos made Tommy Conway’s leveller sting significantly more and their absence will make the replay that much more difficult.

In fairness, the visitors deserved a draw at the very least as they were by far the better side on the day. West Ham simply could not match their intensity and desire to win the game.

With their home advantage against a weakened West Ham side, Bristol City will be confident that they can pull off the shock result that the BBC are hoping for. The Irons fringe/youth players simply have to be prepared for a tough battle if they are to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Undoubtedly, the Robins fans will create an electric atmosphere, while their players will put our Irons through another tough and rough affair – it could be a long night for David Moyes’ side.

The replay at Ashton Gate will be shown live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC sport, kicking off at 19:45 GMT on Tuesday the 16th of January.
