West Ham will not be rushed into the signing of Steven Bergwijn despite their injury crisis, according to reports.

The exact extent of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta’s injuries remain somewhat unknown, but both are expected to be out for at least a month. Given that Antonio is also out injured, and Kudus is at AFCON, it is no wonder that West Ham are keen to sign some players urgently.

A few months ago, our own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed the Hammers interest in former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn. The Dutchman has been excellent for Ajax over the last two seasons, having 26 goal involvements in the last 18 months.

Obviously, Ajax are eager to keep hold of their star player after they sold both Kudus and Alvarez to West Ham in the Summer but he is said to be eager to move back to the Premier League.

According to The Standard, the Irons would have to cover a good chunk of the £26.5 million the Dutch giants purchased him for in order to sign him.

Despite the desperation for an attacker, the news outlet still believes that the club will sell players before they buy any. This is due to how close they are to breaching FFP regulations and a fear of “doing an Everton”.

Although there is no immediate rush to sign anyone as they will not be able to feature in the FA Cup replay next Tuesday, the severity of the situation means that they may not have much of a choice but to make some additions and just pray that they can raise the funds later in the window.

One way or another, risks are going to have to be taken. Our Irons either sign players now (and potentially break FFP if they can not sell anyone), use the underperforming fringe players that they have, or they rely on the youth prospects that we have all heard so many amazing things about. None of them are particularly ideal, but it is a decision that has to be made, and fast.
