West Ham may have to convince Jack Clarke to join the Hammers as the winger has his reservations about the move, according to reports.
It would be fair to say that West Ham have had the fair share of success when it comes to signing wingers from the Championship – their two goal scorers in the Conference League final were such players – and it looks like they could be about to take a risk on another.
Jack Clarke could be the exact player they need to complete their attack. He is as close to Jarrod Bowen as you could possibly get on the left wing, possessing a strikingly similar set of abilities and drawbacks.
While he might not necessarily reach the heights Bowen has, there is every reason to suspect that he could. The 23 year old has already managed to score 12 goals and assist another 2 in the league this season and is well on track to beat his impressive 21 goal involvements from last term.
Given that his reported price tag is around the £15 million mark, it is a relatively small gamble which could reap massive rewards.
Unfortunately, Football Insider has reported that a deal for the Sunderland star may not be as simple as the Hammers would have hoped. The winger was with Tottenham from 2019 to 2022 but barely featured for the North Londoners. In this time, he went out on loan 4 times, all of which were relatively unsuccessful. It is his time at Spurs which has apparently given him concerns about joining another Premier League club from London.
In all honesty, unless there is another reason he does not want to move to London, it is hard to imagine this not being a fairly easy issue for Tim Steidten to resolve considering the brilliant ‘sales pitch’ he gives that convinced the likes of Kudus and Alvarez.
Both the club and fans must give him time to adapt to the top flight, assuming he does join. If you give him a bit of patience though, he could be a sensational addition to David Moyes’ squad.
