According to David Ornstein, West Ham took a massive risk by signing a player who is currently tearing up the Premier League.

The departure of Declan Rice was met with a period of uncertainty amongst West Ham fans. They had lost their star player and, for a while, they had failed to sign anyone with the money they got for him. Fortunately, the time eventually came for them to spend, and they did so excellently.

While all of the players they signed have been brilliant additions, none have been more breathtaking than Mohammed Kudus.

Ghana’s star boy has made the leap from the Eredivisie to the Premier League look like a walk in the park – he has been absolutely sensational in claret and blue. In fact, he has been so good that everyone has been left baffled at how the Hammers managed to pull off such a brilliant signing for only £38 million.

Well, it turns out that they did so with little difficulty as other clubs were too afraid to take a chance on him, journalist David Ornstein has revealed.

“Many clubs were looking at Mohammed Kudus, they didn’t fancy it. West Ham took that gamble and it’s paid off,” he told BBC Sport’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast.

Given we know of Chelsea’s interest, as well as other top clubs keeping an eye on him, it comes as a real surprise that no one wanted him. To the average fan, he was clearly a cut above the rest at Ajax, so surely scouts would have realised this when they watched him.

Whatever the reason is, the East London faithful will not mind at all that his ability went under the radar. £38 million for a player like Kudus is an absolute steal.

How long our Irons can keep hold of him for is a different matter but, whether he stays for years or he is sold in the near future, West Ham will reap massive rewards from other clubs’ failure to recognise Kudus’ talent.
