Multiple clubs are interested in signing Ben Johnson as West Ham look to cash in on him before his contract expires.

When Ben Johnson first broke into the first team, many West Ham fans were convinced he was going to be the next big thing to come out of the Academy of Football, and they had every reason to think so.

Even from his debut against Manchester City in 2019, you could clearly see the quality he possessed. After that game, he would eventually go on to establish himself as a regular starter but, unfortunately, he seems to have gone backwards over the past year-and-a-half.

In that time, Vladimir Coufal has established himself as the first choice right-back and, while the club would like to renew his contract, Johnson seems to think he plays a bigger role for the club than he does as he is demanding much more than the board believe he deserves.

Unsurprisingly, the Hammers are keen to raise some sort of funds from his departure rather than letting him go on a free this Summer. Football Insider believe that there are a number of clubs interested in acquiring his services this month, including Leeds, Rangers, Sheffield United and Southampton.

While the Irons would prefer a permanent move in order to help fund some new signings, they are also said to be open to a loan as long as they get a decent fee and do not have to pay any of his wages.

The 23 year old may face a reality check if he sticks to his current wage demands – very few teams will be willing to pay the £60,000 that Sean Whetstone claims he is requesting. However, it is hard to imagine any of the East London faithful holding a grudge against him. Unfortunately, his refusal to sign a new contract means that it is best for everyone if he moves on in the January window.
