West Ham are continuing their efforts in looking to strengthen the squad this January, with ExWHUEmployee providing an update.

The club have already sanction the departures of two players thus far in the transfer window, with Thilo Kehrer leaving for Monaco on a loan deal, and Conor Coventry bidding farewell to east London for Charlton Athletic.

The club though are looking to add to the squad, despite the January market being typically volatile.

Our Podcast co-host and club insider Ex has provided an update on the current state of play with some potential incomings, with the left-wing position again seen as a priority this month.

“As we have mentioned in previous updates Ibrahim Osman of FC Nordsjælland, Jota of Al-Ittihad and Jack Clarke of Sunderland seem the prime candidates to join the club for that desired left wing position,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.

“Initial negotiations are thought to have started on all three with the usual tactic of finding out what the expectations are of the club, player and usually the biggest hurdle (according to the club) the agents fees.”

A player who we have been heavily linked with numerous times in Kalvin Philips, and with the player now understood to want a move away from Manchester City and the club willing to allow the departure, it appears West Ham are very much in the mix to land the England midfielder.

“Kalvin Philips remains a top target,” added Ex. “He has always been admired by Moyes and the opportunity to sign him on loan is very appealing to the gaffer.

“It was thought that the England international would move to Newcastle but it appears they are worried about FFP and have scaled back their interest following Manchester City’s demands of a £7m loan fee for the player.

“Ourselves, Brighton and Crystal Palace are keen to give the player a chance to play and force himself into England’s Euro 2024 squad. All of these clubs however are put off by the £7m loan fee and high wages and hope Manchester City will lower it.

“It is thought that come the end of the window, if the player has yet to get a club then City might lower those demands.”

Ex will be keeping fans fully up top date on the situation as it develops.
