West Ham have been denied a loan move for a Premier League striker, according to reports.

It is no secret that West Ham are wanting to improve upon their already excellent attack. An overall lack of depth and a long-term hunt for a striker has left them eyeing up a number of forwards this month. While there have been many players linked with a permanent move to East London, the club’s small budget means that they would prefer a loan.

Trying to find a suitable player is not easy in today’s market, but someone that David Moyes apparently thought fitted the requirements was Jhon Duran. According to The Athletic, West Ham approached Aston Villa about Duran’s availability, specifically targeting a loan with an option to buy.

The Colombian striker has failed to impress at Aston Villa, being used mostly as a substitute. In 26 Premier League games he has only found the back of the net twice. In fact, his goal-scoring record throughout his career is nothing to write home about as he has never managed to hit double digits.

However, it is important to bear in mind that he is only 20 years old and has the potential to become a brilliant player. On top of this, it should be noted he has not actually started a league game this season.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like Aston Villa are interested in letting him go, despite him wanting more game time.

Ultimately, the Colombian is probably not the sort of player that the club really needs to be focusing on right now. They need someone who is going to be able to have a massive impact almost instantly and it is unlikely Duran would do that. While he would be a great addition for the future, it is probably for the best that the Hammers look elsewhere this January.
