Quotes from Gianluca Scamacca’s new manager suggests that David Moyes was right to sell him.

Over recent years, West Ham have not had much luck when it comes to strikers but no one proves that like Gianluca Scamacca. The Italian was scoring for fun in Serie A but, despite signs of real quality, he ultimately failed in claret and blue.

Just a year after he signed from Sassuolo, David Moyes decided to sell Scamacca. This sparked outrage amongst portions of the fanbase, they claimed that he had ruined the striker as he was not used properly.

However, it seems like Moyes knows better than some believe as Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperinu has publicly slammed the striker for being lazy. “He has to run,” he told L’eco di Bergamo, “because he isn’t running much. If he isn’t dynamic, he won’t be able to do anything good. Even if he has these important qualities.”

It seems like he lacks one of the most important things in David Moyes system – hard work. If you do not give your all for the team you are never going to succeed under the Scotsman and this shows why. Unfortunately, some fans are eager to blame him for a player’s shortcomings.

Miraculously, the Hammers only lost roughly £2.5 million on Scamacca but it could have been a lot worse. It just goes to show that most of the time there is a good reason for the decisions the higher ups at the club make. This is not a criticism of the player as such, it is just a great example of how Moyes is not as clueless as some make out.
