A German international could be on his way to West Ham this month, but it is hard to see where he fits in.

Edson Alvarez has been absolutely pivotal to West Ham this season. He seems to be the one that makes everything tick and that’s mainly due to the lack of defensive minded midfielders at the club.

Fortunately, this is an issue David Moyes is keen to rectify with Kalvin Phillips likely to join on loan in the coming days. Surprisingly though, the Hammers have been tipped by bild to sign another midfielder Florian Neuhaus.

Neuhaus is a versatile midfielder who has played for Borussia Monchengladbach for the majority of his career. He is mostly a defensive player but does pop up with a goal a few times a season.

Without question, the 26 year old is a quality player but you have to question whether he is needed given that Phillips is joining. He is such a key player for the German outfit so it is unlikely they would let him go for cheap – it is just hard to see why West Ham would sign him.

After all, there are much more pressing issues in the squad. A striker, full backs and a winger are still needed within the next two windows. It will be interesting to see if anything come of these links, but would be a baffling one all things told.
