Edson Alvarez has given West Ham fans a massive boost in confidence for their next match.
It is fair to say that West Ham will be glad to see the back of January 2024. The Hammers are without a win in 2024 and a lot of that is down to the fact that they’ve had a lot of their star players missing. Mohammed Kudus and Nayef Aguerd have been at AFCON, while Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Edson Alvarez have all suffered injuries.
Fortunately, Bowen was back for their last match with Sheffield United. The winger turned striker played the full 90 minutes and showed no real sign of discomfort. On top of this, Ghana got knocked out of their group in dramatic fashion, meaning that Kudus will be available for the Bournemouth game.
Things only get better though, as Alvarez has given an extremely positive update on his injury. The Mexican posted on his Instagram story a picture of him in training with the caption “Back and ready for the next one.” Obviously this confirms that he will be available against the Cherries.
Without him, the midfield has fallen apart as there is no one else who can fulfil his defensive role – hence why the club are so eager to bring in Phillips. It has become clear how important he is to the side, but his aggression always leaves him open to suspensions as well as getting hurt in challenges.
David Moyes will be delighted to have a nearly fully fit squad again, with Antonio and Paqueta being the only two injuries. Things looked worrying for a moment with these injuries, but thankfully we can put this woeful month behind us.
