West Ham are apparently set to join the race for Victor Boniface in the Summer transfer window.

Arguably, there is no side in Europe this season that is more exciting than Bayer Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso has led the German side to a, so far, unbeaten campaign, sitting 4 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

They’ve got a squad full of young, exciting players but one of the best has to be Victor Boniface. The Nigerian striker has scored 10 goals and assisted 7 in just 16 league games this season, with a further 7 goal involvements in all competitions.

Understandably, a record like that has sparked interest from many clubs around Europe, but Football Insider believes that Chelsea and West Ham are front runners for his signature. Much to their disappointment though, they will not be able to sign the forward this month even if they wanted to as he is expected to be out until April with a groin injury.

Additionally, it would take a massive fee to convince the club to sell such a key player. In order to sign him, West Ham would have to break their record transfer fee. Even in the Summer, it remains to be seen whether or not David Moyes will be given that sort of money, after all the board have spent big for a number of years now.

Obviously, there is also the fact that Boniface may not even wish to leave one of the most exciting projects in football to join either of the London clubs.

If he was to come to East London, it would be an absolutely sensational signing for our Irons, but it just may not be feasible. While the club certainly do need to sign a striker, spending over £50 million on one is a completely different matter.
