West Ham could make a last minute bid for a highly rated Championship striker, according to reports.

With the window just a matter of hours away from closing, West Ham will need to act fast if they are to sign anyone.

The Hammers have been linked with plenty of players this month, but they’ve only managed to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan. However, according to Football Insider, they could be about to secure one of the Championship’s most highly rated players in the eleventh hour.

Morgan Whittaker has been on fire this season, scoring 15 league goals and assisting further 6. The step up from League One to the Championship has been no issue and has been one of the key players for Plymouth this term.

Unfortunately, West Ham are not the only Premier League club said to be keen on signing him today, with Brentford and Fulham also preparing a bid.

Argyle are set to demand £10 – 15 million in order to allow their star-man to leave. Obviously, this is a high fee for a Championship player but one the Hammers should be able to afford if the deals for both Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals go through.

Signing Whittaker certainly would be a risk, but seeing how easy he made the leap to the Championship their will be confidence he can do the same to the top flight.
