Edson Alvarez sent a classy message to Lisandro Martinez after he went off injured against West Ham.

In a game full of positives for Manchester United, the injury of Lisandro Martinez nearly outweighs them all. The Argentinian defender has been sensational since joining from Ajax and is integral to their back line.

Unfortunately for them, he has suffered a number of injuries – especially this season. He had only returned from injury last month, but he has now suffered another setback against West Ham. Martinez was battling for the ball from Vladimir Coufal, where they went shoulder to shoulder and ‘the butcher’ came away with the ball eventually. However, the Czechia right-back landed awkwardly on his opponent’s leg, which forced him to be substituted.

It was first feared that he would be sidelined for up to a year with an ACL tear but, thankfully, it was only his MCL. Even so, he is still expected to be unavailable for a significant amount of time and he took to Instagram to deliver a message to his fans. “I want to give a heartfelt thanks for the great support I’ve received and to reassure you that I’ll soon be back out there, and we’ll fight together. Always united,” the world cup winner stated.

In an utterly respectable move, Martinez’s former teammate Edson Alvarez left a comment showing his support. “You’ll come back stronger brother. 💪🏼 I love you so much!”

While Alvarez is brutal on the pitch, it is absolutely clear why he is such a fan favourite. Not only does he give his everything on the pitch, but he is a class act off of it and embodies what a West Ham player should be.
