Kalvin Phillips has opened up on his time at the club thus far and has admitted things haven’t yet gone to plan for the England midfielder.

The former Leeds captain, who is on loan from Manchester City, was shown a red card in our latest defeat and poor performance at the weekend, which has cemented a very poor start to life for Phillips in east London.

Earlier this week the midfielder opened up on his previous struggles at City under Guardiola, with Phillips admitting that the public jibe about his weight gain really hit the player hard, describing it as “a big knock on my confidence.”

Guardiola though has come out and admitted that he was wrong to do so, with the former Barcelona boss apologising to Phillips for the incident, as reported by the Guardian.

“Yeah, I’m sorry,” said Pep. “Once in eight years is not bad. But I’m so sorry. I apologise to him.

“I spoke to him before [making the comment]. I never, ever don’t speak to the team before I say something here, or the player in that case.”

Phillips now want to get his loan spell at West Ham on track, and has issued a statement to fans assuring everyone he is now going to stay focused and work hard to put things right.

“They say bad luck comes in threes, so let’s hope I’ve had mine and I can kick on now,” Phillips told the clubs Official Website.

“It’s not fitness. Having said that, I’ve got a few days training now and I’m going to be working as hard as possible.

“There are things you need to do on a football pitch. Okay, I was training with the best team in the world, but games get you sharper. You can train all you like but you are never going to get match fit and match sharp unless you play games, do you?

“So, that’s the reason I’m frustrated and gutted. I wanted this to be a fresh start, to get my head down and go for it. It’s not gone as I would have hoped. Everyone can see that.

“But I know football. I’m experienced enough to know that if I get my head down, grit my teeth and do the basics right that things will turn.

“It’s easy to say, but now I’ve got to do it.”
