Manchester City are set to step up their pursuit for Lucas Paqueta if star player leaves in the Summer.

The past couple of months have revealed a lot about West Ham including; positions they need to improve upon, how their lack of spending in January has already had dire consequences and, above all else, just how crucial Lucas Paqueta is to David Moyes. Without him, they’ve not won a game in 2024 and have only scored 4 goals.

Fortunately, there is a chance that the Brazilian could be involved in Monday’s game against Brentford. However, their form this year could be a harrowing sign of what’s to come if he is to leave at the end of the season.

It is no secret that Manchester City were extremely keen on signing the midfielder last Summer before he got caught up in a betting scandal. The investigation is still ongoing but a verdict is expected soon. Paqueta expects to be cleared of any wrongdoing and, assuming this is the case, there have been reports that he will attempt to sue the FA.

If this is the case, he clearly wanted a move to the treble winners and is frustrated that this did not end up going through. Much to West Ham’s dismay though, City are expected to make a move for him again but only if they sell Bernardo Silva, according to the Daily Mail.

Considering how poor Matheus Nunes has been since making the move to Manchester, it is no wonder they are eager to sign an attacking midfielder if Silva leaves and, unfortunately for West Ham, Paqueta would be perfect in Pep’s possession based system.
