West Ham have been handed a favourable draw in the Europa League last-16 stage having been pitted against SC Freiburg.

Our Hammers will take on the German side first on 7th March away from home, and then a week later again at the London Stadium to conclude the tie, hopefully to advance to the quarter finals.

Although its not particularly the most glamorous of ties, its one that many will have breathed a sigh of relief considering our current form, as West Ham have managed to overcome our opponents twice already this season.

David Moyes’ side faced Freiburg in the Group Stage both home and away, and managed to beat them on both occasions – so it will be hoped West Ham can continue that tradition when we face them at this stage of the competition.

Speaking after the draw, The West Ham Way Podcast hosts Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee both agreed that it was a favourable draw for our Hammers, with hope growing that we can overcome the German side once again.

“I’ll take that draw, could’ve been a lot worse,” stated Walker. “Not the best away day but much more chance of progressing in the competition.”

Ex agreed, feeling that this tie is very much one David Moyes’ side can win over the 2 legs.

“Not the most exciting of draws – seeing as we have already played them, but a tie that is winnable as we proved in the previous two rounds,” said our club insider. “Let’s hope we can play how we did before against them in the repeat fixture.”
