West Ham to battle bitter rivals for the signature of a prolific midfielder this Summer.

Preparations for West Ham’s massive rebuild are already underway. Tim Steidten and his team are well into the scouting process with the German also holding talks with Moyes’ likely successor Julen Lopetegui so that he can understand the manager’s vision.

With so many players needed though, they’re going to have to spend wisely and go for the players that represent the best value for money. This could mean recruiting players from outside Europe’s biggest leagues.

As it was reported in January, Matt O’Riley is said to have many admirers at West Ham. The Celtic midfielder has a staggering 33 goal involvements this season. At just 23-years-old he still has his best years ahead of him and there’s every reason to believe that he will be able to make the leap up to the Premier League.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Hammers could make a move for the Denmark international but they will face stiff competition from rivals Tottenham. Aside from European football, Spurs could hold a massive advantage due to Ange Postecoglou. The Australian was obviously at the Scottish side before his move to England and O’Riley could be swayed to work with him again.

Obviously, there will be many players being considered but O’Riley is someone you’d assume could be available for a good price due to playing in Scotland and, more importantly, he would help West Ham to fulfil their homegrown quota. They may be at a disadvantage to Tottenham, but that doesn’t mean that a deal can’t be done.
