Former West Ham player and current Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has been linked to the potential position at the club this summer, according to reports.

Wolves are enjoying a fantastic season under former Hammers player Gary O’Neil, currently sat 8th in the Premier League and closer to a push for European places than the relegation battle many expected them to be in this season.

If David Moyes is to leave West Ham at the end of the season, and the club are in the hunt for a new manager, Gary O’Neil may well be a name approached to take the helm in East London for the start of next season.

O’Neil, who spent two years at West Ham as a player, making more than 50 appearances for the club, was appointed Wolves’ head coach last summer less than a week before the club’s 23/24 season began.

Despite key players in both Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes being sold last summer, Wolves’ excellent campaign has been aided by the attacking talents at their disposal including the likes of Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee Chan and Pedro Neto.

Gary O’Neil’s side have picked up some brilliant results this season. They have done the double over both Chelsea and Tottenham, and even secured a 2-1 win at home in September against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Journalist Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT on the 14th of February that O’Neil could be an ideal candidate to replace David Moyes at West Ham with Moyes’ current contract up at the end of the season. Jones said: “I think O’Neil has done a brilliant job so far, and it wouldn’t totally surprise me if West Ham did end up having to look back into the Premier League if that was the sort of manager that did interest them from the top flight.”

Wolves will of course be hoping to keep Gary O’Neil at the club beyond this season, with the former Hammer still having two years left on his current deal.

With West Ham said to be assessing managerial alternatives, if David Moyes is to leave West Ham in the summer, O’Neil may well be a name those leading the hunt for a new manager, such as technical director Tim Steidten, will be keen to approach to see if a deal can be agreed.
