West Ham produced a much-needed positive team display in the emphatic victory over Brentford at the London Stadium.

Its fair to say the pressure was on from the outset, following what had been a very difficult and frustrating year to date, but to the credit of the manager and players, it was a far improved performance that has breathed life back into the season.

Our Hammers started off in tantalising style, with 2 quickfire goals from Jarrod Bowen inside the opening 7 minutes certainly lifting the mood and more importantly settling the nerves.

Brentford responded well to their credit by grabbing a goal back thanks to an error by Zouma which lead Maupay to be able to lift over Areola – but West Ham did not waiver, in fact should have been further ahead than 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw the team sit deeper but in the end it paid off as just under 20 minutes in, the game was wrapped up thanks to an excellent header from Bowen for hit hatrick, following very good buildup play from Kudus.

Emerson then produced a moment of magic from 25 yards with a screamer just 6 minutes later, as the left-back struck a stunning shot into the top corner to cement an outstanding night, despite Brentford grabbing a consolation to make it 4-2 on the night thanks to Wissa.

The West Ham Way Podcast co-host and club insider ExWHUEmployee was understandably delighted with the result and performance, who heaped praise on 3-goal hero Jarrod Bowen.

“As I said in the preview the start was so important today,” said Ex after the win. “With some supporters baying for Moyes’ blood, had we not started well they would have created a negative atmosphere and the team would have struggled, but thankfully we got off to the perfect start.

“We already had the boost of the return of Lucas Paqueta to the team, and then those two early goals helped to give confidence and a platform.

“The front 3 looked much more fluid with the Brazilian’s return and Bowen was obviously exceptional. The defence still drop too deep and this enabled a couple of goals once more this must be fixed but a good, entertaining performance and a great result!”
