Mohammed Kudus was not surprised by how well West Ham played against Brentford as they were “hungry” to get their season back on track.

Since signing from Ajax in the Summer, Mohammed Kudus has become an instant fan favourite at West Ham. The pure talent he possesses has left fans baffled at how they managed to sign him at all, let alone for £38 million.

Since he left for AFCON, the Hammers have been in woeful form – failing to win a single game in 2024, that was until Monday night. The Ghanaian winger was back to his best against Brentford and was key to helping his side return to winning ways. It was a season-defining game and Kudus was the first to admit that “we needed that.”

“The past games have been very difficult,” he confessed to WHUFC.com, “but it was good to get the reaction and the win in front of the fans. We keep building on it and focus on the next game.”

However, despite their poor run of form ahead of the London derby, nothing about the game seemed to shock Kudus as he knew that the team was capable of such a fiery performance, especially Jarrod Bowen.

“I think [the two goals in seven minutes] showed how hungry we as players are for the goals because that is what we are supposed to do. I’m not surprised [about Jarrod Bowen’s hat-trick], more is coming.”

“I think we wanted it more and you could see that from the start of the game as we got the goals quickly and there was an energy and determination of how much we wanted to win today. It was good to get the three points.”

As our star-boy said, this has to be the benchmark for the levels they need to reach in every single game between now and the end of the season. If they do that, then there is every chance that we will get to experience yet another year of European nights at the London Stadium.
