Edson Alvarez was happy he and his West Ham teammates could get back to winning ways on Monday night against Brentford.

The 4-2 victory secured the Hammers first three points of 2024 and ended a run of eight games without a win.

Alvarez has become a fan favourite since joining the club from Ajax last summer. With 30 appearances in all competitions so far this season, he has certainly played a major part in helping the club reach the knockout stages of the Europa League and eighth place in the Premier League, where the Hammers currently find themselves sitting.

Monday night’s win against Brentford saw the Hammers record their first victory in eight games and end what had been a challenging start to 2024. Speaking to broadcaster Paramount + after the game, Alvarez said: “We knew, we analysed the game (beforehand) and they played a lot of direct attack, so it was important to win the second balls. I think we started off quite well and I’m also happy for the team because we’re back to winning ways.”

West Ham got off to a flying start against Thomas Frank’s side thanks to two goals in the first seven minutes from Jarrod Bowen.

The England international scored his third goal after 63 minutes to make it 3-1, his first career hat trick and also creating a piece of history in the process by becoming the first West Ham player to score a hat trick at the London Stadium.

Speaking about his teammate’s outstanding performance to the clubs Official Website, Alvarez said: “I’m very happy, very happy for him, obviously, in the end it is a job for the entire team, but today it (the starring role) was given to him and he deserves it because he is a great boy.”

Alvarez is hopeful if he continues his level of performances in a West Ham shirt that he will be included in Jaime Lozano’s Mexico squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League finals and the Copa America in the summer.

“I think that I’ll continue working obviously to be able to earn my call to the national team” said Alvarez, adding: “I’m simply focused on my form, I continue doing what I have to do, and these things will come by themselves.”
