It has been reported that Ipswich Town left back Leif Davis is a top target for both West Ham and Newcastle in the summer transfer window particularly if Kieran McKenna’s side are unable to clinch promotion this season.

24-year-old Davis, who has a remarkable 14 assists in the Championship so far this season, signed for Ipswich from Leeds United for a fee of £1.2 million in the summer of 2022.

Davis came through the academy at Leeds before spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Bournemouth where he began to show real promise.

Emerson has been a standout performer ever since joining West Ham from Chelsea, however left back is a position the Hammers may very well look to strengthen in the summer with a replacement needed for 34 year old Aaron Cresswell who is in the twilight of his career.

As reported by London World, Ipswich’s manager Kieran McKenna was asked recently if he felt as though the fullback had the ability to become a Premier League player, McKenna said: “I think he certainly can. I don’t have any doubts about that.

“He’s still a young player who is only in his second season of regular senior football though.” Going on to add: “But if you ask me ‘has he got the ingredients, the attributes and the potential to play at the next level and do well at the next level ?’ The answer is certainly yes.”

Newcastle United could certainly prove stiff competition to West Ham if the Hammers are to make a move to sign Davis. This is as Davis was born and grew up in the North East, therefore the chance to return home and play for his boyhood club may prove too good of an opportunity for the fullback to turn down.

Speaking about his love for The Magpies last summer Davis said: “I’ve always been a huge fan and had a season ticket at St James’ park for years.” Adding: “My favourite games were the European nights when I went up there with my dad and brother.”
