West Ham have a good chance of keeping Lucas Paqueta this Summer on one condition, according to a journalist.

For once, it is extremely difficult to point out who the best player at West Ham is. Normally there is one player who is so far above the rest for the Hammers with Payet and Arnaurovic being two recent examples of this. However, there are 5 or 6 different players who you could argue are the best but really it just comes down to opinions.

Ultimately though, if you were to ask every single Hammers fan the question, the name that would appear most often would probably be Lucas Paqueta.

Since joining West Ham in 2022, the Brazilian instantly captured the hearts of supporters through perfect work rates, brilliant skill and an overall charm that just oozes class. Unfortunately, it is expected that a number of ‘bigger’ clubs will come in for him in the Summer, following the collapse of a move to Manchester City ahead of this season.

Luckily, all hope is not lost as journalist Graeme Bailey believes that there is still a chance that they could keep hold of the midfielder, but it would take a change in manager to do so.

“Obviously you take Lucas Paqueta out of this team, a player who David Moyes arguably never even wanted in the first place, and it leaves a huge hole,” Bailey explained to Hammers News.

“I think one of the reasons Paqueta will be leaving is that he doesn’t like playing the football that he’s asked to at West Ham. That might be the silver – or even golden – lining that if West Ham bring in a manager who is good enough, could you keep Lucas Paqueta? And if you could you are in a position to seriously push on – he’s one of the best midfielders in Europe on his day. He clearly is.”

“He’s absolutely sublime and if there’s a chance to keep Lucas Paqueta then sorry Mr Moyes but what better reason to change Mr Moyes than if you can keep Paqueta. I think West Ham will get someone good. I think Steidten will fancy his chances.”

Whether or not Steidten would actually be able to convince Paqueta to stay remains to be seen but, in recent years, we have seen our Irons pull off some incredible signings against all odds, who’s to say we can not keep a player that’s already ours?
