Said Benrahma claims he had “no hesitation” when it came to leaving West Ham to join Lyon in the January transfer window.

Since leaving the club on loan at the end of January, Said Benrahma has not been afraid to make some subtle digs at the Hammers. From claiming that he has only just started feeling trust now he has moved, to claiming that Lyon train more intensely than West Ham, it is clear that he was not happy in East London.

Unsurprisingly, he has once again taken aim at West Ham by acting as if he could not wait to get out of the club. “Lyon showed a real interest in me. There was no hesitation about that. Afterwards, I can feel the support of the city of Lyon,” he stated, before describing how he felt after scoring his first goal for the club. “I was super happy, it freed me. After the goal, I felt calmer with the ball. So, I tried to perform as well as possible.”

The large majority of West Ham fans gave Benrahma much more time than his ability warranted, so to hint that he did not feel the support of the East London faithful is baffling. On top of this, it is just baffling that a player would take so many shots at the club that he is still employed by – it is not like there is an obligation for the French side to make the move permanent.

If he does not perform well in Ligue 1 then there is every chance we could see the Algerian back in claret and blue next season, which would make his comments very awkward indeed.
