West Ham claimed a vital win at Goodison Park yesterday after stealing it at the death thanks to two quick fire goals.

It was expected to be a tough contest with the hosts in the midst of another relegation battle, and there was certainly nerves in the air despite 4 points being returned to the club earlier in the week.

Despite it being a relatively even contest in the first half, Everton should have been ahead after being awarded a penalty on 43 minutes following a Zouma handball, but the outstanding Areola saved well.

West Ham were flat from the restart and Everton were awarded a lead after Beto headed in a stunning cross, to make up for his earlier penalty miss.

David Moyes side responded well though and were level just 5 minutes later after Zouma headed home pin point Ward-Prowse corner.

It was then Everton who looked the more aggressive and likely to grab a winner, but Areola was in exceptional form to deny the home side, as was Soucek on the line.

West Ham though were clinical, with Soucek scoring a remarkable winner in the 91st minute with an outside-the-boot curling strike into the top corner.

The win was then sealed after a breakaway goal thanks to Bowen laying off to a determined Alvarez ran down the pitch to poke beyond Pickford and break Toffees hearts.

Our Podcast co-host and club insider ExWHUEmployee was delighted with the result, giving special praise to Areola for his display.

“It’s days like that make it so much fun to be a West Ham fan,” stated Ex after the game. “What an away day! Whilst we could have been way behind without Areola, I always felt we would get something out of it.

“I also thought Alvarez was outstanding and what a goal from Soucek and Alvarez was great too! It has to be said Moyes made the tactical changes and subs that helped change the game too. Happy days all round!”
