West Ham’s women have moved 6 points clear of the drop zone after late drama against Manchester United.

After an incredibly disappointing start to the season, West Ham are finally starting to pick up points. Over their last four games they’ve picked up seven points with 2-1 wins against bottom-of-the-league Bristol City and Arsenal and, on Sunday, they secured a massive point against Manchester United.

A mishap at the back saw the Red Devils take an early lead in the fourth minute via Williams with a tidy finish from the edge of the box. Manchester United remained on the front foot throughout the first-half and Williams in particular had some brilliant chances to extend their lead.

Thankfully, West Ham were able to deal with the pressure and kept themselves in the game which allowed Emma Snerle to play a lovely ball into Asseyi who finished off the chance beautifully to bring the Hammers level in the 85th minute.

Throughout the game, both sides had opportunities to score more than they did with the Irons having 15 shots to the visitors 16 but neither were able to take advantage of those chances. In particular, Williams had a golden opportunity to win the game through an Arnold mistake but, much to West Ham’s relief, she completely missed an open net.

Comparing our Irons’ performances from the start of the season to now really is like watching two different teams. If they can just finish off more of the  chances that they carve out then there is no reason they can not start climbing the table before the end of the campaign.
