West Ham have been linked with a shock move for a highly rated ‘big 6’ goalkeeper this Summer.

If you were to pick one area that West Ham did not need to improve on in the Summer it would almost certainly be the goalkeepers. Alphonse Areola has been one of the best and most consistent keepers in the Premier League this season and while his backup, Lukasz Fabianski, is now 38 years old he is still a brilliant cup keeper.

Surprisingly though, Ben Jacobs has reported that West Ham could make a move for Aaron Ramsdale at the end of the season. The Arsenal shot-stopper was first choice for all of the last campaign and the start of this one. However, he was cast aside seemingly out of nowhere for David Raya. Understandably, he wants a move away from the Emirates but the Hammers’ reported interest has seemingly come out of nowhere.

“I think that West Ham could be an option for Ramsdale,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT. “Even though Areola has had a very good season, he’s in his early 30s, Ramsdale is a bit younger, West Ham might be tempted, and there will definitely be some European interest as well, if Ramsdale does choose to move abroad, but his preference is to stay in the Premier League. That’s why I think that something might develop with West Ham, we’ll have to wait and see, of course. 30/31/32 is not necessarily as old compared to a player for a goalkeeper. And that’s why West Ham are kind of happy enough with Areola and Fabianski.”

Of course Ramsdale is never going to agree in being second choice at West Ham but it is hard to imagine a world where the Frenchman is dropped – he simply has been world-class. It is a situation to keep an eye on, but you would assume that our Irons’ priorities will lie elsewhere in the Summer.
