Italian champions Napoli have reportedly shown interest in signing a West Ham centre-back in the Summer transfer window.

Despite a shaky start to life in claret and blue, Konstantinos Mavropanos has gone on to be a reliable central defender for the Hammers. Since coming in for Nayef Aguerd, he has done an excellent job and it is no surprise that West Ham’s turn in form has coincided with him breaking into the starting XI.

Surprisingly though, last year’s Serie A winners Napoli are considering whether to make a move for the defender in the Summer, according to Corriere dello Sport. The Italian side were actually interested in signing Mavropanos from Stuttgart before the Hammers came in with a £20 million offer.

Depending on what they offered, West Ham may consider selling the Greece international but they would almost certainly have to receive a bid in excess of what they paid.

However, both Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma have been linked with a move away from East London at the end of the season. If both of them are sold then it would be foolish for the Irons to let ‘Dinos’ go as well.

Even though he has improved drastically, it is fair to assume that we have not seen the best out of the centre-back yet. Given that he is likely to have a run of games in the starting XI, he should gain confidence with every game and hopefully he gets better as his confidence grows.

With 4 years remaining on his contract, the ball is firmly in West Ham’s court. Whether they are willing to sell Mavropanos just a year after signing him remains to be seen, but Napoli certainly missed out by not signing him before the Conference League winners did.
