West Ham tonight take on SC Freiburg in Germany in the 1st leg of the last-16 stage of the Europa League.

Our Hammers go into the match full of confidence having shaken off a very poor run of form since the turn of 2024, with a winless 8 mtach run ending with 2 straight wins in the Premier League, breathing belief once again in the season, including our European journey.

We face off against the Bundesliga side for the 3rd time this season, having come across Freiburg in the Group stages, and having won the matches on both occasions – adding to the confidence levels for David Moyes’ side tonight.

With the 1st leg of the tie being away from home, it is hoped West Ham can get one foot in the quarter-finals tonight, with the return leg next week at the London Stadium under the floodlights.

The West Ham Way Podcast co-host and club insider ExWHUEmployee has given his thoughts on the game ahead of kick off, stating that David Moyes must get the selection spot on, with Freiburg likely to provide a tough match and atmosphere in Germany tonight.

“Today is a game we should go into with confidence,” said Ex. “Not only have we won the last two games, but we are playing a team we have beaten twice before.

“If I were Moyes I wouldn’t alternate much – but if he does he needs to get the balance just right, as a win would be so good for our momentum.”

Ex also had a message for the travelling Irons fans today, noting the difficulties many are facing on their journey to the stadium.

“Shout out to all the West Ham fans making the trip in difficult circumstances, with all the plane and train strikes,” added Ex. “We are about to embark on the second leg of our journey to get to Freiburg this morning!”
