West Ham face Xavi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen after thumping Freiburg out of the Europa League.

It was an incredible European night once again for our club, when under the floodlights David Moyes side overturned a 1-0 deficit to win 5-1 on aggregate against the German side.

Goals from Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, Arron Cresswell and a wonder double from Mohammed Kudus saw our Irons book a place in a European quarter final for the 3rd successive season.

The victory, which will be etched in the memories for all connected with the club, has seen our Hammers tie against Bundesliga league leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the next round – also the former club of Tim Steidten.

Despite it being a tough draw on the surface, the performance last night and the fact the deciding leg will be at home, really gives belief that West Ham have more history to write this season.

Following the emphatic 5-0 victory last night, The West Ham Way Podcast duo Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee gave their thoughts on the stunning performance.

“What a night that was!” exclaimed Walker. “To watch West Ham win 5-0 in Europe really is special.

“We got everything right against Freiburg, kept a clean sheet and scored some fantastic goals. A superb win.”

Ex agreed and gave special mention to George Earthy, who made his senior debut for the club against the German side.

“A brilliant performance from the start,” said Ex. “Great set up, tactics and individual performances. Some brilliant goals too and great to see another academy player get some minutes too! Another European quarter final!!”
