West Ham’s U21’s are now top of the Premier League 2 table following a 4-1 win over Brighton.

Steve Potts’ side dominated on the South Coast and produced an outstanding display as they put the previous weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Fulham firmly behind them.

England U20 striker Divin Mubama put the Hammers in front 34 minutes in after he fired Regan Clayton’s cut back past Brighton’s keeper Steven Hall. George Earthy, who made his first team debut on Thursday night in the Europa League Round of 16 second leg tie against Freiburg, doubled West Ham’s advantage early in the second half.

Soon after, Mubama would score his second goal of the game being assisted by Clayton once more, who laid it on a plate for the striker to finish on the goal line and make it 3-0 to the Hammers. With 20 minutes left to play Brighton’s Mark O’Mahony pulled one back for the Seagulls, finishing smartly beyond West Ham’s keeper Jacob Knightbridge to make it 3-1.

West Ham were awarded a penalty with five minutes of normal time remaining, George Earthy’s penalty was saved, however Junior Robinson was alert and on hand to fire the rebound home past Brighton Keeper Hall. Divin Mubama’s injury time sending off was the final piece of action as far as the Hammers were concerned as Steve Potts’ side recorded their eleventh win of the season to go top of the Premier League 2.

Speaking after the match, manager Steve Potts was delighted with his side’s performance, telling the club’s official website: “We scored four goals and had chances to add to it too. The defensive side gives the platform, and the attacking side is something that this team always produces, so I’m not surprised when they get goals.”

The young Hammers continue their league campaign at home against Derby County on the 5th of April with kick-off at 7pm.
