Michail Antonio has made an extremely open and honest claim about his form this season.

When he leaves, there is no doubt that Michail Antonio will go down as a club legend at West Ham United. He not only played a crucial role in one of the club’s most successful periods ever, but he also played at Upton Park and has put his body on the line week in week out for the Hammers.

Unfortunately, his age and numerous injuries are clearly catching up on him. Despite being sensational over the past three games, he has had a poor season overall, scoring only two goals this campaign.

However, Antonio is more than aware of his issues and is confident he can continue helping the Irons as they look to make this season another historic one.

“I’ve been out for quite a while and before that I wasn’t giving the best performances, so it’s nice to be back out there performing the way I am now,” he confessed to The Athletic

“At the start of the season, I started well, then I faded out with bad performances, I’ve got to be honest. Then, coming back from injury, I was a bit rusty. Now I’m showing the quality I have again. I’m not the prettiest footballer, but I know who I am and I understand that. When I step on the field I know what I bring and I know what I can do. And at the end of the day, every manager sees the positives I can bring to the team and ends up starting to use me.”

For a player that so often says controversial things that infuriates fans, his honesty and confidence are a real breath of fresh air. When he is at his best, it is near impossible for defenders to keep tabs on him – West Ham need that if they are to finish strongly.
