Said Benrahma’s loan to Lyon is reportedly going to be made permanent in the Summer.

Given how sensational he was in the Championship, it is no wonder expectations were so high for Said Benrahma when he signed for West Ham. He was set to be the next big talent to come out of the second tier of English football. Unfortunately, that was far from the case.

Despite some promising signs, he never managed to fulfil his potential. The 28-year-old seemed to go backwards at the London Stadium and was slowly being phased out before his loan to Lyon in January.

While he has only featured 5 times for the French side, he has impressed and has helped them move closer to the European places and the relegation zone.

In what could be ideal for both sides, Football Insider claim that Lyon want to make the deal permanent. It is understood that there is an option for them to purchase him for £12.3 million, adding to the £5 million they paid in loan fees. On top of this, West Ham would receive 10% if Lyon sold him.

The Algerian scored the most important penalty in the history of the club but, as a whole, his time in the Premier League was far from a success. However, he will always be remembered fondly by the East London faithful for that night in Prague.
