West Ham are set to approach a financially struggling Premier League club for their star player this Summer.

While everyone knew Kalvin Phillips would need time to settle in at West Ham, fans have been left bewildered at just how bad he has been. You can put it down to a number of factors, most of which are outside of his control, but the fact is that he simply has not been good enough – something he is well aware of.

Understandably, it seems like the Hammers are unlikely to attempt to sign the midfielder permanently at the end of the season, unless things change drastically. With Alvarez suspended for the next three games, it really is make or break time for Phillips.

However, assuming he does not improve, West Ham will need to sign a midfielder in the Summer transfer window and, according to Football Insider, they are considering making a move for Amado Onana.

Before he joined Everton back in 2022, the midfielder actually came incredibly close to joining the Hammers, but they reportedly refused to meet his demands.

With Everton already having a 6 point deduction for breach of PSR, and there being a possibility of further deductions, West Ham could try and sign him once again.

Playing in a primarily defensive role, his heading and tackling are second to none and, similarly to Alvarez, likes to put himself about to retrieve the ball as much as possible.

If they do manage to sign the 11-time Belgium international, there is no doubt he would be a sensational addition to their squad. The only question would be who he replaces.
