The Hammers are set to go into yet another summer transfer window on the hunt for a striker, it appears as if the club have their eyes set on making a move for one of the league’s most in demand players, Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

West Ham do not have a great history, particularly in modern times, of successful signings up front, with big money transfers such as Sebastian Haller and Gianluca Scamacca ultimately not succeeding in their time wearing the Claret and Blue. Whilst Jarrod Bowen has performed well up front this season, it is not his natural or preferred position. With injuries to Michail Antonio and Danny Ings not receiving regular minutes, it is clear that the Hammers will once again be on the look out for a striker.

The club has been linked with a number of names such as Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart and were also linked with a January move for Chelsea’s Armando Broja. However, as first reported by Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke, West Ham could make a surprise move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Football Insider claims: “The Hammers want to bring in a new striker for next season and believe that they can make a statement signing” by securing the 28 year old’s services and bringing him to the London Stadium.

Toney has previously been linked with a move to West Ham, however he has also been linked with moves to many of the leagues traditional “top six” such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. O’Rourke of the Football Insider claims that Arsenal are set to cool their interest in the Brentford striker, whilst Chelsea’s ongoing financial difficulties will severely hinder their chances of making a move for the Brentford talisman, leaving the door wide open for David Moyes’ side to attempt to secure a deal.

Whilst sealing a deal for Ivan Toney will be far from easy, with the Brentford striker currently being one of the league’s most in demand players, if the report from the Football Insider is to be believed, the Hammers may well find themselves with a great shot at securing a deal for one of the Premier League’s most talented forwards.
