West Ham manager David Moyes has been blasted for his in-game management in the loss to Newcastle at the weekend.

Our Hammers were in firm control of the proceedings at St James’ Park on Saturday, and were leading 3-1 with just 20 minutes of the game left to run.

A key shift in the flow of the game came following the substitution of Michail Antonio for Kalvin Phillips, with many questioning the call to change the system when West Ham were bossing the affair.

The change appeared to have a very negative impact on the proceedings, as Newcastle grew into the game and our Hammers drained in confidence, with no outlet following the changes made in losing Antonio, who was instrumental for Moyes’ side.

West Ham went on to lose 4-3 in shocking circumstances, with substitute Phillips giving away a penalty too, to add to his woeful time at the club thus far on loan from Manchester City.

Our Podcast host Dave Walker, who was at St James Park for the defeat, did not hold back on his assessment of the game, as he slammed the manager for the decisions made.

“I can’t believe we have lost that game,” said Walker. “We were doing really well and had the game under control, then Moyes decided to bring on an out of form midfielder on which completely changes the dynamic of an our game.

“We go from being in control to inviting pressure. His in game management is so poor. I also find it so hard to understand how such a defensively minded manager concedes so many goals! So frustrating.”
