West Ham will reportedly have to spend a record-breaking fee to secure their top Kalvin Phillips replacement.

Given how poor his start to life at West Ham has been, it seems highly unlikely that he will secure a permanent move to the London Stadium. At this point it would take an instant turn around for it to even be considered.

As such, it is no surprise that the Hammers are already looking at midfielders to bring in this Summer. While a number of potential suitors will be considered, it has been reported that they will try and Amadou Onana.

Before he joined Everton, West Ham are said to have been incredibly close to securing his signature. Unfortunately, the Belgian international decided to join the Toffees instead and the Irons will have to pay substantially more than they would have in 2022.

According to Football Insider, it will take an astonishing £60 million to bring him to East London. Not only is this roughly triple what Everton signed him for, but it would also break their record transfer fee.

However, in today’s market a player of his quality is almost certainly worth such a large sum of money. The only hope of getting him for less would be if the Liverpool based club were forced to sell him in order to comply with PSR. Even then, would they really sell their most valuable asset for less than he’s worth?
